Blue Mountain Health System

"For Your Health & Convenience"

Recent advances in health care allow you to return home the same day you have undergone surgery in one of Blue Mountain Health System's Same Day Surgery Units located at either the Palmerton campus or the Gnaden Huetten campus. One of the many benefits associated with your short stay is a Comprehensive Preadmission Testing Program with one visit for all diagnostic studies whereby each patient meets privately with a registered nurse to address health concerns and needs. The patient may be interviewed by telephone if unable to come into the hospital.

Here are some of the many procedures available through our same day surgery departments:

  • Ear, nose and throat surgery
  • General surgery
  • Gynecological surgery
  • Ophthalmology surgery
  • Podiatric surgery
  • Pulmonary surgery
  • Urology surgery
  • Vascular surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Bladder Control/Incontinence Program

Our innovative Pain Management program features an interdisciplinary approach to treating acute or chronic pain. The team consists of physicians, nurses, rehabilitation specialists and behavioral specialists, who demonstrate both concern for the patient and expertise in their fields. The medical management may include a series of injections or other appropriate treatment to relieve or minimize pain.

In the Endoscopy Suite , we offer short-term diagnostic and therapeutic care for gastrointestinal disorders. The diagnostic studies are performed utilizing state-of-the-art fiber optic, digital and video equipment while administering only small amounts of medication to make the patient comfortable. Naturally, heart rate and rhythm are closely monitored throughout the procedure.

The Same Day Surgery Unit offers a variety of procedures in a relaxed setting, including blood transfusions, infusion and injection of antibiotics, medications to treat Rh negative mothers and the latest medications to treat arthritis and Crohn's Disease. Catheterization may be performed to determine whether a urinary tract infection is present. Instillation of medication to treat bladder cancer is available. Instruction for self-medication injections is also offered. A physician order is required.

Additional information regarding same day surgery services and accommodations may be obtained by calling either 610-377-7076 at the Gnaden Huetten campus or 610-826-1156 at the Palmerton campus.
